The Lovania team love a challenge. That’s why when the suggestion was made to take up the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in August to raise money for Perennial, eight of us said “we’re in!”
Steve Smith, Account Coordinator at Lovania and one of the first names on the list to participate, tells us a little about the experience….
Saturday 19th August. The big day. A deep breath, plenty of water, plasters and enthusiasm and off we set, leaving Lovania HQ at 4:45am. With the 3 peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whenside and Ingleborough in our sights, 8 of the Lovania team set off at pace at 7am. Spurred on by the eagerness to complete the challenge and raise money for Perennial, we scaled 694 metres of Pen-Y-Ghent before rolling up our sleeves and approaching all 736 metres of Whernside and the gruelling 723 metres of Ingleborough. All in under 12 hours. All of us as first-time 3 Peakers (apart from Katherine Whittam, who we now consider to be superhuman to have even considered a second go at the challenge!!). Glorious surroundings as the peaks form part of the Pennines and pepper the countryside across the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Long (very long) and short of it? We have so far raised £528, with many more donations yet to be added to the total. And will we do it again? [murmurs from team…shuffling of feet…averted eyes]. Well….perhaps a new challenge next year – who’s with us?!
Here’s how we did it!
The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24-miles long and includes 1,585m of ascent.
You can still add to the Team’s donations to Perennial by visiting their JustGiving fundraising page. This will add to the £400 already raised earlier in the month when we conducted a Charity Car Wash on site, with funds split between Perennial and We Love Manchester.
Lovania Team who took part: Celanie Ball, Lee Chambers, Janine Wilson, Steve Smith, Paul Taylor, Steve Massam, Katherine Whittam and Amanda Thynne.
