Lovania began with a name – and a story of resilience.
In 1980, Len, Keith, and Celanie Ball founded Lovania, inspired by HMS Lovania, the last ship Len served on during World War II. Unlike so many others, the ship made it safely through its missions in the Mediterranean. That legacy of strength and survival resonated deeply with the Ball family. Keith believed the name Lovania captured the spirit of reliability and endurance they wanted their business to stand for — and so it became the heart of a new horticultural venture.
From a family-founded business to one of the UK’s leading plant suppliers, Lovania has flourished thanks to a commitment to quality, investment, and innovation.
Today, Lovania remains owned and run by the Ball Family. We supply over 30 million ornamental plants to more than 376 businesses every year, with a product range that spans from alpines and perennials to potted bulbs and seasonal bedding.
Our growth has been driven by long-term investment in people, technology, and infrastructure. With over 65 acres of nursery space, advanced glass, tunnels and production facilities, we operate with precision, scale, and sustainability — while never losing sight of the personal touch that defines our roots.
The early days
Lovania’s success isn’t just measured in numbers. It’s measured in the trust we’ve built with our customers — from national retailers to independent garden centres — and in the knowledge that our plants help businesses grow, shelves stay stocked, and gardeners across the country enjoy something truly beautiful.
At the core of everything we do is a shared love for plants and the art of growing. Our team of over 80 skilled professionals bring experience, care, and innovation to every part of the process — from potting to delivery — ensuring each product we offer meets the highest standards.
From a ship that stood the test of time to a company that thrives on trust and quality, Lovania continues to push forward — proudly, purposefully, and with deep roots in British horticulture.
